UNION, N.J. - In their first road game of the 2019 season, senior Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored four goals to lead the offense, as The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team opened an 8-2 lead at halftime and never looked back, rolling to an eventual 13-5 win at Kean on Saturday.

With the win, Scranton moved to 2-0 on the season, while Kean fell to 0-1 after dropping their season opener to the Royals.

In the opening frame of the contest, things were close between the squads in the first 12 minutes of action, as a Kean goal with 18 minutes to go in the first half tied the game up at 2-2.

This would be the last goal the host Cougars would score the rest of the half, as the Royals tallied six unanswered goals to take an 8-2 lead into intermission. In the scoring run, sophomore Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored three times, while Gallo, junior Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and sophomore Bridget Doyle (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored the other goals.

Up by six entering the second half, Scranton gave up back-to-back goals to open the period, as Kean cut the Royals lead down to 8-4. But, the Royals bounced back, as they scored four unanswered to take an insurmountable 12-4 lead with nine minutes left in regulation.

From there, it was academic for Scranton, as the Royals coasted to an eight-goal road win to open the year 2-0.

Overall, Gallo led the offense in the win, scoring two goals in each half for Scranton. She also had an assist in the victory and scooped up two ground balls, as well.

Elsewhere, Henson ended the game with a hat trick on the offensive end, while Calabro, Doyle and freshman Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) finished with two goals, apiece, to round out the goal scorers for Scranton. Conklin also led the Royals in ground balls, finishing the game with four (along with three draw controls), while Calabro shared the lead on the squad with four draw controls.

In the assist column, three players had one in the match - sophomore Raegen Dunn (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), senior Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem) and junior Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh).

On defense, junior Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) paced the Royals, finishing with four draw controls and two caused turnovers. The Royals also caused 12 turnovers on the afternoon, as Scranton held Kean to just 11 shots in the victory.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, as they host Misericordia in a non-conference match at Weiss Field. Action begins at 4 p.m.
