Senior Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) of The University of Scranton women's lacrosse put together her best offensive performance of the season on Saturday in a big win over Moravian, and for her efforts, she was named the Landmark Conference's Offensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 28 on Monday.
For Gallo, this marks the second time in her four-year career at Scranton that she has earned Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week accolades, as she earned the same honor on April 16, 2018.
In the Moravian game, Gallo poured in a game-high six goals to lead the offense, as the 18th-ranked Royals controlled the visiting Greyhounds in a 21-16 win on Senior Day. The win, which clinched the number-two seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Playoffs for Scranton, was also the Royals' 15th of the season, the most the team has ever won in any season in program history.
Gallo, who added two goals and an assist in Scranton's 16-15 win at Cabrini last Tuesday, has now scored 41 goals for the 2019 season, tying her for the highest mark in that offensive category for the season. She also now ranks eighth all-time in program history in total points with 180 (159 goals, 21 assists) and sixth in career goals with 159.
Gallo and the rest of The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, as they host third-seeded Moravian in the 2019 Landmark Conference Semifinals at Weiss Field. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
