HAVERFORD, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (1-4) put together a late first half rally, but was unable to dig out of an early 7-2 hole and fell to Haverford (3-1) by a score of 15-10 on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field in Haverford.

This marked the second straight game of a three-game road trip. In fact, the Royals are playing five of their first six on the road this season.

Sophomore Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) opened the scoring just 0:47 into the game on a free position shot, but Haverford responded with five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead at the 18:33 mark of the first half. The Fords led 7-2 with 8:47 left in the first half before goals from senior Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) brought Scranton within three at 7-4 heading into the half.

The two teams were scoreless for the first six plus minutes of the second half before Haverford scored two goals in 33 seconds to take a 9-4 lead for the time being. Conklin and fellow sophomore Rachel Wells (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) added goals in the next few minutes of play for the Royals, but were unable to draw any closer than four goals the rest of the way.

Conklin and sophomore Jennifer Williams (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had two goals apiece to pace Scranton, while the other goal scorers were Calabro, Henson, Wells, junior Bridget Lalley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), sophomore Jaclyn McCusker (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) and freshman Maggie Smith (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock). Henson also added two assists in the game and Calabro had an assist, three ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers, while Conklin registered seven draw controls on the afternoon.

Calabro's four caused turnovers were a game-high, senior Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) added three caused turnovers of her own and sophomore Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic) had a pair for Scranton. In goal, junior Lauren Devlin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made eight saves and tallied four ground balls in just over a half of action, while senior Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) tallied a pair of saves.

Haverford was led by Courtney's Cubbin hat trick and three other players scored two goals apiece.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team will close out the road trip on Wednesday at Misericordia. Action is slated to get underway at 4 p.m.
