Wrestling Competes in Green Terror Duals at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The University of Scranton wrestling team competed in the Green Terror Duals hosted by McDaniel on Sunday, facing off against strong competition in Maryland and finishing the day with one win and two narrow defeats.

The Royals (4-4) topped Rowan College of Gloucester County, 28-14, while suffering setbacks to 22nd ranked Gettysburg, 25-24, and McDaniel, 30-24. 

Seniors Kevin Merle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Belvidere) and Dan D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), junior Keegan Connelly (Schecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and sophomores Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and Kyle Shaffer (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) all record pins on the day for Scranton.

McNally posted a pin at the 3:36 mark of the 184 pound bout against Gettysburg while Connelly, D'Agostini, and freshman Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley – Old Tappan) each picked up forfeit victories.

Shaffer, Merle, D'Agostini, and Connelly added pins in the narrow loss to McDaniel.  At 165 pounds, Shaffer pinned his opponent at the 5:29 mark before Merle notched a fall just two seconds before the end of the third period, at 6:58.

At 197 pounds, D'Agostini earned a pin at the 4:31 mark while Connelly also claimed his second victory of the day, this one by fall, 6:51 into the heavyweight match.
