EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Trailing 24-20 heading into the final bout of Tuesday night's dual meet against The University of Scranton, East Stroudsburg's Gerhardt Reiter pinned his opponent to give the host Warriors a 26-24 victory over the Royals.
East Stroudsburg (1-0) took an 11-0 lead by winning the first two matches of Tuesday's meet, picking up a technical fall at 141 pounds followed by a pin at the 2:37 mark of the 149 pound match.
Scranton (4-5) pulled to within 11-9 with behind wins from 157 pounds and 165 pounds. Junior T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) won by medical forfeit at the 157 pound bout before senior Kevin Merle (Stroudsburg, Pa./Belvidere) posted a 7-3 decision in the 165 pound matchup.
The Warriors countered with a decision at 174 pounds and a pin at 184 pounds to claim a 20-9 advantage, but the Royals stormed back with three straight wins to take a 24-20 lead.
Senior Dan D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) scored a technical fall at the 6:09 mark of the 197 pound match to start the visitors' surge and Junior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) followed with a technical fall of his own as time expired at 285 pounds to knot the team score at 20-20.
Freshman Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley – Old Tappan) gave Scranton its first lead of the evening, 24-20, with a 16-6 major decision at 125 pounds, but Reiter came up with the clutch pin at the 2:04 mark of the 133 pound bout to give the Warriors the victory.
Scranton will head to Rochester, N.Y. on Saturday for the RIT Invitational which is set to begin at 9 a.m.
