Senior Dan D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) of The University of Scranton wrestling team is enjoying one of the finest individual seasons in Royals history this winter.  He will look to continue that success this Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

The championships will be held at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia with Ferrum College serving as the host.

First round action will be held on Friday morning with second round matches, and the first two rounds of wrestlebacks, will be held on Friday night.

The remaining wrestlebacks, culminating in the third place match, along with the semifinal rounds, will be held Saturday morning while the national championship matches will take place on Saturday night.

D'Agostini, who will compete in the 197 pound bracket, is one of 180 participants across the 10 weight classes who will wrestle in the national championships.  Student-athletes qualified for the championship by placing top-three in their respective weight classes at one of the six NCAA regional tournaments held on Feb. 22, 23 and 24.

D'Agostini, who boasts a 38-3 record on the season, is just the 12th wrestler in Scranton history and first since 2007 to reach the national championships.  He did so by finishing second at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at the College at Brockport last weekend.

D'Agostini enters the national championships having won 19 of his last 20 matches with his lone setback during that time coming via a 3-1 sudden victory decision to top-ranked Etiini Udott of Centenary in the championship match of the regional meet.

D'Agostini will face Riley Kauzlaric of Wisconsin-Whitewater in is first round match on Friday morning.  Kauzlaric, the eighth seed, enters the bout with a 27-5 overall record and is ranked fifth in the country by d3wrestle.com.

D'Agostini, whose 38 victories this season are tied with Michael Grandchamp's for Scranton's single-season record, has posted seven wins by fall, seven technical falls, and seven major decisions this season.  All three of his losses this winter have been decisions and by a combined 10 points with a pair of losses by two-or-fewer points.

For his career, D'Agostini holds a 107-29 overall record to rank third all-time in program history for career wins.  He also has 20 pins, tied for ninth all-time in Royals' history.

The top-eight finishers in each weight class at NCAA championships will earn All-American honors.

Only two Scranton wrestlers have achieved All-American status: Michael Grandchamp at 165 pounds in 1999 and Darren Buseman at 157 pounds in 2003.
