Freshman Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was quite impressive in his first collegiate event at the Brockport Open this past weekend, and for his efforts, he was named The University of Scranton Athlete of Week for the period ending Nov. 3, 2019.

On the day, Oakes won his first two bouts at 165 by pinfall, which led to a semifinal in which Scranton took three of the four spots, as Oakes was joined by sophomore Justin Weimer (Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South), and senior T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch).

In the semi's, Oakes won by decision over Weimer, while Conlon captured his semifinal bout by major decision (17-5) to move into the finals. In an all-Scranton final at 165, Oakes knocked off Conlon to take the championship in the weight class, winning the bout by pinfall at 4:29.

Oakes and the rest of The University of Scranton wrestling team returns to action on Sunday, as the program hosts the annual Electric City Duals inside the John Long Center. The action begins at 10 a.m.
