SCRANTON - In his first action of the 2019-20 season, senior heavyweight Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) won four bouts to earn MVP honors, as The University of Scranton wrestling team captured the 2019 Electric City Duals on Sunday after going a perfect 4-0 on the day.

In the event, the Royals narrowly knocked off SUNY Oneonta (19-16) and Rowan College (25-24), then blitzed past Lackawanna College (51-18) and Middlesex College (45-3) to go unbeaten and take the team crown.

The day began for Scranton with an easy win over Middlesex, as Connelly opened the day with a 14-6 win by major decision. Also collecting victories in the match was junior Kyle Shaffer (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) at 157 (11-5) and sophomore Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) at 184 (20-11).

Scranton's next two bouts were absolute battles, with each match coming down to the heavyweight match and Connelly. And each time, the senior came through for Scranton.

First, against Oneonta, Connelly broke a 16-16 tie with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Jonathan Soloranzo of Oneonta, giving the Royals a three-point win in the process. Then, against Rowan and with Scranton trailing 24-20, Connolly absolutely dominated John Fountain by technical fall (22-6) to score the decisive five points for the Royals.

Elsewhere in the Oneonta match, freshman Anthony Clarizio (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) pinned his opponent at 141 (2:30), while junior William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) (6-1) at 174 and McNally (3-2) at 184 pulled out victories for Scranton.

Against Rowan, McNally won again (this time by technical fall, 19-2), as did Clarizio (by pin at 0:59). Also picking up victories were sophomore A.J. Sortino (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) at 133 (pin at 0:36), and Shafer at 157 (by decision, 15-9).

The Royals capped off the day with a convincing win over Lackawanna, in which sophomore Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley - Old Tappan) won by technical fall (18-0) at 125, and Shaffer by pin at 4:02 at 157. Clarizio picked up another victory on the afternoon at 141 (4-0), as did Laughlin at 174 by decision (15-8) to round out the day for Scranton.
