SCRANTON, Pa. - It was an impressive night for The University of Scranton wrestling team Wednesday inside the John Long Center against NCAA Division II member East Stroudsburg, as six Royals won bouts to take a 24-15 victory over the visiting Warriors.

With the win, Scranton is now 7-1 on the year in dual meets, while East Stroudsburg (who is ranked 22nd nationally at Division II) dropped to 0-2 in duals for the year.

To start, Scranton quickly picked up six points via a forfeit at 125 points, but ESU came back strong at 133, taking a major decision victory to cut the Royals lead down to 6-4.

At 141, freshman Anthony Clarizio (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) edged his opponent, 4-3, to increase Scranton's lead in the match to 9-4. The Royals then increased the lead by three more points at 149 when another freshman Dante Simeti (Pearl River, N.J./Pearl River) captured a close 9-7 win.

Down 12-4, ESU came back with a win at 157 pounds to slice the Royals lead down to 12-7. But, once again, Scranton stopped any Warrior momentum with a big win at 165, as freshman Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) blanked his opponent, 9-0, to earn a major decision and four more points for Scranton.

At 174, ESU captured a major decision win of their own to make it a 16-11 match in Scranton's favor entering 184 pounds. There, sophomore Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) effectively put ESU away for the night, as he controlled his opponent in a 15-4 win to take a major decision and four more points for Scranton.

With a 20-11 lead entering the final two bouts of the evening, the deficit was too much for ESU to come back from, despite taking a 12-4 win at 197. Up 20-15 entering 285, senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) absolutely rolled to a 10-2 win, as another major decision victory gave the Royals the 24-15 win.

For Connelly, the win was his eighth straight, as he has not lost a match yet on the 2019-20 season for Scranton at 285 pounds.

The University of Scranton wrestling team will return to the mat on Saturday, as they travel to Williamsport for the Penn Tech Duals. Action gets underway at 11 a.m.
