Senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) of The University of Scranton wrestling team continued his impressive season on the mat this past week, and for his efforts, he was named the Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 12, 2020 on Monday.
For Connelly, this marks the second time on the 2019-20 season that he has been named the Scranton Athlete of the Week, last earning the honor on Nov. 25. For his career, this marks the fourth time he has taken the accolade, as well.
Returning to action this week after a long break for Christmas and New Year's, Connelly started the week winning by forfeit vs. Hunter on Wednesday at home to sew up a 46-6 win for the Royals.
Scranton then headed to the North/South Duals on Saturday at Ursinus, where it was a busy day for the Royals where they took on four opponents.
For Connelly, he started the day off with a loss to Shippensburg's Derek Berberick by an 8-3 margin, but the senior came back strong the rest of the day, going undefeated.
Against both Ursinus and Rhode Island College, Connelly collected pinfall victories, as his win by fall over Rhode Island College clinched a 22-19 win for Scranton. Connelly's third win (over WPI) came by decision (7-3).
For the year, Connelly has posted a 22-3 overall mark, going 15-1 in dual meet action at 285 pounds. Earlier in the season, he also collected his 100th career victory at Scranton, making him just the fourth Royals wrestler in program history to hit the century mark in wins.
Connelly and the rest of The University of Scranton wrestling team returns to action on Saturday, when they head back to Ursinus for the 2020 Will Abele Invitational.
