SCRANTON - In their final home match of the 2019-20 season, The University of Scranton wrestling team fell just short on Sunday vs. Wilkes, dropping a 22-14 decision.
With the defeat, Scranton dropped to 16-8 on the year, while Wilkes improved to 10-9 in duals with the win.
Before the start of the meet, the Royal's program honored it's 2019-20 senior class: Charles Burke (Garden City, N.Y/Chaminade.), T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton), Kiel Pechko (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Kevin Pompilio (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan).
Here are some highlights from the match.
The day kicked off on a high for Scranton at 125 pounds, as sophomore Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley - Old Tappan) collected a 9-4 win by decision to put Scranton up, 3-0. The win for Murawski bumped up his record on the year to 27-8 overall.
The next four matches, however, were won by Wilkes, as the Colonels grabbed a 15-3 lead over the Royals. At 165, though, Conlon collected the second win of the day for Scranton, winning by a 6-3 decision.
After another Wilkes win, McNally collected a dominating 15-0 win by technical fall. For McNally, it was his ninth win by tech. fall on the year, as he is now 31-9 overall this season.
Following a victory for Wilkes at 197, Connelly won his final match in the Long Center, blanking Wilkes' Roger Horton in a 6-0 win by decision. Connelly is now 29-3 overall for the year and 22-1 in dual matches, as well.
The University of Scranton wrestling team returns to action on Friday night, traveling to King's for their final dual match of the 2019-20 season. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
