John Burgette enters his first season as an assistant coach in The University of Scranton wrestling program in 2019-20.
Burgette joined the Royals program bringing with him over 15 years of coaching experience, most notably as the head coach at near-by Scranton High School.
While the leader of the Knights program, Burgette led the team to a PIAA District II title and multiple Lackawanna League championships, while mentoring 10 District champions, 5 Regional placers, 3 PIAA State placers, and one Regional and PIAA State Champion.
Burgette, who also serves as the head coach and owner Mat Assassin's Wrestling Club in Avoca, is a full-time employee of the Scranton Police Department. He resides in Scranton and is the father of three sons - Isiah, Andrew and Jacob - and one daughter, Leah. All three of Burgette's sons were raised in the wrestling community, with two going on to compete in the sport at the collegiate level.
