FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Junior forward Kelly Egan (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex Senior) struck for the only goal of the match in the 18th minute and The University of Scranton women's soccer team played strong defense en route to a 1-0 victory over Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals (4-2-1) posted their third shutout of the season as junior goalkeeper Krissy Welsh (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) made three saves for her second shutout of the season and seventh of her career. The defensive unit of senior Jasmine Sconciafurno (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley), juniors Jessica DePinho (Morganville, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills), and sophomore Katie Cullen (Malverne, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) combined to allow just eight shots, only three of which were on goal.
Egan's goal was her third of the season and seventh of her career. It also marked the third straight game in which she has scored, and the Royals are 3-0 in those matches.
Scranton enjoyed an 18-8 advantage in shots and 6-3 in corner kicks.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 22, when they host Muhlenberg at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
