HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Junior forward Kelsey Bacon (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) had a pair of goals to spark The University of Scranton women's soccer team to its sixth straight victory, a 3-0 win at Juniata on Friday afternoon at Winton Hill Fields.
Bacon wasted little time putting the Royals (7-2-1, 3-0 Landmark) ahead, scoring just 4:43 into the match for her third goal of the season and 17th of her career. She added an insurance goal in the 86th minute to give her four goals this season and 18 for her career.
Senior forward Sarah Andrews (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) gave the Royals a 2-0 lead at halftime when she scored on a header three seconds before the halftime horn. It was her first goal of the season and sixth of her career. Senior Michaela Arbus (Pequannock, N.J./DePaul Catholic) had her second assist of the season and seventh of her career by delivering a perfect corner kick for Andrews.
The Royals (7-2-1, 2-0 Landmark) have outscored their opponents 21-1 during the winning streak. Junior goalkeeper Krissy Welsh (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) made six saves and has a .909 save percentage and a 0.22 goals-against average during the winning streak. On the season, she has allowed just five goals for a save percentage of .839 and a goals-against average of 0.57.
Scranton held a 20-7 edge in shots over Juniata (5-4-1, 1-1 Landmark) and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior midfielder Christina Akalski (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led the Royals with five shots.
Scranton will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when the Royals host Western Connectictut State at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
