Junior forward Kelsey Bacon (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) scored a key goal for The University of Scranton women's soccer team last week. Thanks to her clutch play, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Bacon scored the only goal of the match in the Royals' 1-0 victory at Drew on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The victory pushed the Royals' winning streak to nine and kept them in a first-place tie in the Landmark Conference at the time.
With Scranton and Drew tied coming out of halftime, Bacon wasted little time swinging momentum in the Royals' favor. She scored in the 51st minute when she took a pass from freshman midfielder Erica Licari (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) and deposited a shot in the upper left corner for the only goal of the match. It was Bacon's fifth goal of the season and 19th of her career, which ties her for 20th on the career goals list at Scranton.
Scranton is back in action on Wednesday when the Royals travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Penn State-Berks at 7 p.m.
