Senior Jasmine Sconciafurno (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic Valley) of The University of Scranton women's soccer team has been a standout on the pitch and in the classroom during her career with the Royals. On Thursday, she was honored for her work in both areas.
Sconciafurno was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team in District 4, in recognition of her standout play on the field and strong work in the classroom. With the honor, Sconciafurno is now eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced in three weeks.
A marketing major with a 3.76 grade-point average, Sconciafurno has started all 16 games on defense this season, helping Scranton to an 11-3-2 record heading into this weekend's regular season finale. She has helped the Royals post 10 shutouts and hold their opponents to 0.56 goals per game. Sconciafurno also scored her first career goal earlier this season.
Sconciafurno and the Royals have clinched a Landmark Conference playoff berth. They will visit Elizabethtown on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. match. A victory would secure the no. 2 seed for the Royals, while a draw or a loss would give Scranton the no. 3 seed for the playoffs, which begin with semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
