Sophomore midfielder Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) has been a scoring machine for The University of Scranton women's soccer team, tallying goals in each of the team's past five matches.
Last week, she totaled three goals and an assist for seven points in two victories as the Royals' pushed their winning streak to four. As a result, Hreniuk has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.
Hreniuk came into the week with goals in three straight matches, and she added a dramatic twist to her scoring streak in Tuesday night's 3-2 overtime win at Muhlenberg. With the Royals trailing 2-0 and less than five minutes to play, she scored twice in the span of 98 seconds to tie the match and force overtime. She then assisted on the match-winning goal by fellow sophomore midfielder Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) in the 100th minute.
On Saturday, Hreniuk, who was the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week last week, added an insurance goal as Scranton opened Landmark Conference play with a 3-0 victory at Moravian. The goal was her sixth of the season and she leads the team in both goals and points (14). She is tied for second in the Landmark Conference in goals and stands alone in second in points.
Hreniuk's five-match scoring streak is the longest by a Scranton women's soccer player since Emily MacPhee scored in five straight matches in 2008. It also comes after Hreniuk went scoreless in eight matches last season.
Scranton returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when the Royals host Wilkes at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
