Sophomore Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was in the mood to lend a helping hand last week. The midfielder assisted on three of the Royals' goals and added one herself while helping the team win twice to extend its winning streak to six.
As a result of her big week, Uricchio has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Uricchio and her teammates opened the week by defeating Wilkes, 4-0, at Fitzpatrick Field on Wednesday, Sept. 28. She finished with an assist on a second-half goal by senior midfielder Kelly Egan (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and finished the game with a team-high four shots.
On Saturday, Urrichio came through with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 rout of Landmark Conference opponent Elizabethtown at Fitzpatrick Field. She assisted on goals by senior defender Carolyn Warner (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and junior midfielder Hannah DeMars (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), and later added her own goal just before halftime as the Royals took a 4-0 lead into the break.
Uricchio's four points in Saturday's win were a single-game career high and she is second on the team in points this season with 13. She is also second in goals (5) and tied for second in assists (3). Her play has helped Scranton get off to a 2-0 start in Landmark Conference play and 8-1-1 overall.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they face Misericordia in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. in Dallas, Pa.
