Juniors Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Erica Licari (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) had strong performances for The University of Scranton women's soccer team last week. As a result, they were honored by the Landmark Conference on Monday.
Berry was named the conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts while Licari picked up the Offensive Athlete of the Week honor after her goal lifted the Royals to a 1-0 win over Moravian on Saturday.
Berry made 10 saves on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in a 0-0 draw against New York University in the Bronx, N.Y. She made six first-half saves, two in the second half and one in each overtime period as the Royals earned the draw despite being outshot, 23-6, in the match.
On Saturday, Berry made a pair of saves in the Landmark Conference opener against Moravian, good enough for her fifth shutout of the season.
Licari provided the only goal of the match against Moravian when she connected on a penalty kick in the 60th minute. It was her second goal of the season and 11th of her career. It was also the third match-winning goal of her career.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 26, when the Royals travel to Edwardsville, Pa. to take on Wilkes at 4:30 p.m.
