EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Junior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) extended her shutout streak to nearly 435 minutes by making five saves as The University of Scranton women's soccer team battled Wilkes to a 0-0 draw in double overtime on Tuesday night.
Berry made three saves in the first half, one in the second and one in double overtime to post her fourth straight shutout and sixth of the season. She has not allowed a goal in 434:53 going back to the second half of a 6-2 win over Marywood on Sept. 13.
Scranton (5-2-2) received a strong defensive effort across the board, holding Wilkes (5-1-2) to just five shots on goal out of the Colonels' 12 attempts. The backline of seniors Hannah DeMars (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and Katie Cullen (Malverne, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), sophomore Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and freshman Shae Guilfoyle (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River) played a key role in the fourth straight shutout.
The Royals were outshot, 12-6, and did not have a single player with more than one shot. Wilkes also held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. to take on Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference matchup at noon.
