Junior forward Erica Licari (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) had the best game of her career to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a win over Drew last week. As a result, she has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.
Licari had a career-high five points in a 4-0 win over the Rangers on Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Madison, N.J. She had a pair of goals and added an assist as the Royals continued their unbeaten run through conference play.
In the first half, Licari scored in the 24th minute to break the ice and put the Royals ahead. After Scranton took a 2-0 lead into halftime, she assisted on a goal by fellow junior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) in the 47th minute for a 3-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Licari added her second goal of the match to close out the scoring.
It was the third time in her career that Licari has scored two goals in a single match.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, Licari tied for the team lead with four shots in a 2-0 win over Juniata. That victory improved Scranton to 9-2-2 overall and 5-0-0 in Landmark Conference play. The win also clinched a Landmark Conference playoff berth.
Licari and the Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when they host Haverford in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
