Senior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) of The University of Scranton women's soccer team wasted little time getting back to her scoring ways at the start of the 2018 season.
Hreniuk scored four times as the Royals opened the season with a pair of victories over the weekend. As a result, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Hreniuk opened the season by scoring twice in a 4-0 win over Stockton on Friday, Aug. 31, in a game played at Kean University in Union, N.J. She opened the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute, then pushed Scranton's lead to 3-0 when she scored just 26 minutes into the second half.
A day later, Hreniuk again scored twice in a 3-0 win at Kean. The Royals took an early 1-0 lead that they held for most of the afternoon. Hreniuk then put the game away with unassisted goals in the 87th and 89th minutes, helping Scranton start the season 2-0 for the third straight season.
Hreniuk's performance over the weekend marks the first time in her career that she has scored multiple goals in consecutive games. She now has 29 career goals, which rank 14th in program history.
The women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Royals travel to Danbury, Conn., to take on Western Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
