Freshman midfielder Steph Lowrey (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) made an impact on the pitch for The University of Scranton women's soccer team last week, finishing with two goals and two assists in two games. As a result, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Lowrey had a goal and an assist in each game, leading the Royals to wins over Drew (6-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 10) and Elizabethtown (3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 13), both at Weiss Field.
In the win over Drew, Lowrey assisted on the Royals' second goal, which came in the 30th minute, then scored her own goal seven minutes later for a 3-0 lead. It was her only shot of the match, but her play off the bench on the left wing put pressure on the Rangers all night.
Three days later, Lowrey scored the opening goal in the win over Elizabethtown. It came on a perfect header off a cross as Lowrey put the Royals ahead in the 19th minute. She later assisted on the team's third goal in the 59th minute. Lowrey finished the match with a team-high three shots.
For the season, Lowrey has two goals and four assists while helping the Royals to a 12-0-1 record, including 5-0-0 in Landmark Conference action. The team has won eight straight, including the last seven by shutout.
The women's soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when the Royals travel to Haverford, Pa. to take on Haverford at 4 p.m.
