Stiles Earns Landmark Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week Honors

Junior Mazie Stiles (Nyack, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) put together a big week in a pair of victories for The University of Scranton women's soccer team, and for her efforts, she was named the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 29, 2019, on Monday afternoon.

For Stiles, this marks the first time in her career she has been named Landmark Athlete of the Week, as well.

The week kicked off for Stiles and Royals on Tuesday night against Wilkes, and in the contest, the junior forward scored a goal in each half (including the eventual game-winner in the second period) to lead Scranton to a 3-2 win on the road. The multiple-goal night for Stiles was the first of her career, as well.

In a defensive struggle vs. Catholic on Saturday, Stiles did not get onto the scoring sheet but did play a pivotal role in the game-deciding play, as her perfect corner kick to senior Rebecca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) set-up the eventual game-winning goal in double overtime.

For the year, Stiles has scored two goals and added an assist for five total points on the offensive end. Seven of the 13 shots she has taken from the field have been on goal, putting her shot on goal percentage at .538 entering the month of October.

Stiles and the rest of The University of Scranton women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg for a non-conference match. Things get underway at 4 p.m.
