Senior Rebecca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) of The University of Scranton women's soccer team was named the Landmark Conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 6, 2019, on Monday afternoon.
For Russo, this marks the second time in her career at Scranton that she has been named Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week, previously earning the honor on Sept. 24, 2018.
On the week, Russo led a dominant Scranton defense to a pair of shutout victories over Penn State Harrisburg (2-0) on Tuesday and Goucher (1-0) on Saturday, as the Royals defense has not allowed a goal in three straight matches overall. Scranton also only allowed five total shots on the week, four of which came in the Penn State Harrisburg game.
Russo also got in on the act offensively for the second straight week on Saturday, as she recorded an assist on Scranton's game-winner in the 71st minute. The assist was the first of Russo's career at Scranton, as well.
Scranton, now 5-2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference, returns to action on Wednesday concluding a three-match road trip at Penn State Berks. Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
