After leading The University of Scranton women's soccer team to another Landmark Conference championship and a berth into the NCAA Division III Championship field, senior Rebecca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) and junior Erin Toburen (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) were honored for their work in the classroom on Monday, nabbing spots on the 2019 United Soccer Coaches (USC) Scholar All-East Region Team for NCAA Division III.

Russo, who boasts a 3.89 GPA as a Nursing major at The University of Scranton, earned a spot on the USC Scholar All-East Region Second Team, marking the second straight season in which she has earned a selection to the team (she was a First Team All-Region and All-American pick a season ago).

The selection for Russo bookends an incredible run of postseason accolades for the defender. A 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection, Russo was also the 2019 Landmark Conference's Senior Scholar Athlete for women's soccer.

A 2019 All-Landmark Conference First Team selection, Russo helped the Royals blank nine opponents throughout the course of the season, as she also scored four goals and added an assist on the offensive end throughout the year, as well.

Toburen, meanwhile, nabbed a spot on the USC Scholar All-East Region Third Team, earning the honor for the first time in her career after sporting a 3.98 GPA as a Nursing major at Scranton.

On the field in 2019, Toburen went on to earn All-Landmark Conference First Team accolades after pacing the midfield for the Royals. Scoring a goal on the year, Toburen also helped the Royals defensive unit allow just under a goal a game for the year (0.85), as she started 18 matches on the year for Scranton.

The duo led Scranton to an 11-5-5 overall mark on the year, as Scranton won the Landmark Conference title for the third time in four seasons with victories over Elizabethtown (3-2) and Susquehanna (3-0) in the postseason to avenge a pair of losses in the regular season. In the NCAA Tournament, Scranton once again advanced to the Second Round after getting past previously undefeated Centre on PK's in the First Round (5-4).
