Throughout the month of July, we will look back on some of the best moments of the 2019-20 season for The University of Scranton Department of Athletics in a series entitled "Royals Rewind". Our first moment - the women's soccer team's 3-0 win over Susquehanna in the 2019 Landmark Conference title match on Nov. 9, 2019.
Entering the final month of their 2019 season, The University of Scranton women's soccer team entered some uncharted waters.
After dropping regular season games to Elizabethtown and Susquehanna on the road, the Royals entered the 2019 Landmark Conference playoffs as the number three seed, meaning it was very likely that the team would have to not only win two games away from Weiss Field to win the conference title but knock off the two squads who beat them in the regular season.
In the semifinals at E-Town, Scranton pulled out a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win, setting up the stage on Nov. 9 when the Royals traveled south to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on top-seed Susquehanna in a rematch of the 2018 Landmark title match that Scranton lost at home on penalty kicks.
On Wednesday, senior Mazie Stiles (Nyack, N.Y./Albertus Magnus), junior Steph Lowrey (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and sophomore Teresa Hegarty (Bryn Mawr, Pa. /Merion Mercy Academy) joined sports information director John Gatto to watch highlights from the title match, discuss the season that was, and chat about their upcoming return to campus.
