HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team improved to 4-0 on the season on Saturday by defeating Juniata and Goucher in a tri-meet hosted by Juniata.
The Royals defeated the host Eagles (0-2), 170-76, and also topped the Gophers (1-3), 202-53, to extend their win streak to four.
Sophomores Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Marycate O'Sullivan (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) won two individual events apiece to lead Scranton on the day.
Byrne highlighted the day by breaking the Juniata pool record in the 200 freestyle, clocking a time of 2:11.89 to win the event. She added another victory in the 100 butterfly after touching in 1:09.74.
Campo took first in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:57.88 before winning the 200 IM with a pace of 2:33.18.
O'Sullivan won both the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle events, posting a time of 1:10.23 in the backstroke race and a mark of 1:04.98 in the freestyle competition.
Junior Jenna Harper (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) and freshman Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) also picked up individual victories on the day for Scranton, with Harper taking first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.54 while Diehl's pace of 28.79 in the 50 freestyle was good for the victory.
Senior Margaret Reynolds (Centerport, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) took second in the 200 butterfly while junior Hailey Kenyon (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) brought home a runner-up result in the 200 backstroke.
Scranton also won both relay events on the day. O'Sullivan, senior Claire Mason (Livingston, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy), freshman Stephanie Alvarez (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), and junior Elizabeth Howlin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 2:10.88.
Diehl, junior Anne Gormley (Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), senior Lucy Fulton (Wayne, Pa./Radnor), and junior Elizabeth Howlin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) capped the meet by taking first in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:58.80.
Ilseman, Wren, senior Emma Rose Ilseman (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), and freshman Elizabeth Dern (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay for the Royals.
Scranton will travel to Carlisle, Pa. next Saturday to take on Dickinson in a dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
