The University of Scranton women's and men's swimming & diving teams capped off the first half of their 2018-19 slate this past weekend, and entering the Holiday break, several Royal swimmers have posted some impressive times in the pool.
Leading the way for the women's team is sophomore Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa,/Scranton Prep), who has been impressive in her first season at Scranton.
Last weekend at the Drew Ranger Invitational, Campo hit NCAA Division III B-Cuts in two events - the 100-breaststroke (in 1:04.78) and the 200-breaststroke (2:20.81). According to CollegeSwimming.com, these two times were two of the fastest on the year in the country, as well. Campo's time in the 200-breast ranks 13th in all of NCAA Division III, while the mark in the 100-breast is 17th nationally.
Elsewhere on the women's team, freshman Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) is also closing in on an NCAA B-cut in the 100-breast, as her time of 1:06.14 in the event ranks 42nd nationally according to CollegeSwimming.com. Sophomore Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) is just behind Diehl in the national top times, coming in 57th with her time of 1:06.64. Byrne will look to record an NCAA B-Cut in the event as the season progresses, trying to hit the mark for the second straight year.
Rounding out the top times in the first half of the year for the women's team includes senior Claire Mason (Livingston, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) in the 100-breast (1:07.16), whose time in the event at the Ranger Invitational was the best in the event in her career.
For the men's team, sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was dominant at the Ranger Invitational, winning three events on the weekend. Mills posted career-best times in both the 100-breast (58.49) and 200-breast (2:08.76). Elsewhere, junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also recorded some solid marks at the Ranger Invitational, including matching Mills' time of 58.49 in the 100-breast and hitting a career-best in the 100-free (49.81).
The University of Scranton women's and men's swimming & diving teams return to action on Jan. 13, as they host Elizabethtown in the first meet of the 2019 portion of their schedule. Things get underway at 12 p.m.
