Women’s Swimming & Diving Rolls Past Elizabethtown in Dual Meet, 180-79




SCRANTON, Pa. - The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team won all but two events contested on the afternoon, as they Royals coasted to a 180-79 win over visiting Elizabethtown on Sunday in a dual meet inside the Byron Center.

With the victory, Scranton moved to 6-1 overall on the year in dual meets.

The winning started for the Royals right away in the dual meet, which was the first for the team since Dec. 1, and the first at home since early November.

First up in the 200-medley relay, Scranton's "A" team of sophomores Marycate O'Sullivan (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) and Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), and Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) along with senior Claire Mason (Livingston, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) won the event by over five seconds with a time of 1:55.00

In individual events, the first victory of the day came in the 200-freestyle, where freshman Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) was victorious in 2:06.18. This was followed by O'Sullivan's win in the 100-backstroke, as she finished the event with a time of 1:02.96 to take the top spot.

Byrne went on to win in the 100-breastroke, taking that event in 1:10.41, while senior Elizabeth Howlin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) was victorious in the 50-freestyle in 26.54. The next Scranton win came in the 200-backstroke, where senior Susan Neggia (Fair Lawn, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) hit the wall in 2:21.63 to finish first.

In the 200-breaststroke, junior Jenna Harper (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) won with a time of 2:38.40, taking the event by almost 12 seconds. The 500-freestyle saw a Royals swimmer also dominate, as senior Margaret Reynolds (Centerport, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), won by 16 seconds with a time of 5:44.33.

Next up was the 100-butterfly, where junior Hailey Kenyon (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) finished first in 1:04.37, while Byrne became a two-time winner on the day with a victory in the 400-IM (4:48.88).

The day ended for Scranton with a familiar theme, as the "A" team of Howlin, Campo, and seniors Emma Rose Ilseman (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and Lucy Fulton (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) won with a time of 1:44.29.

The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team returns to action on Friday, as they travel to Misericordia for a tri-dual meet with the host Cougars and Marywood. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
