Women's Swimming & Diving Continues Dual Meet Success with Victories over Misericordia, Marywood

DALLAS, Pa. - The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team continued their domination of the opposition in dual meet action on Friday evening, as the Royals rolled past host Misericordia (168-85) and Marywood (199-62).

With the victories, the Royals moved to 8-1 on the year in dual meets.

The night began for Scranton on a high note, as the Royals captured the 400-medley relay in a time of 4:08.29. The team consisted of senior Claire Mason (Livingston, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy), and sophomores Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), Marycate O'Sullivan (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet), and Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford).

Individual action began with senior Margaret Reynolds (Centerport, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) winning the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:48.90, which was followed up by a victory by Byrne in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:59.24. Campo then edged a Misericordia swimmer to capture the 100-breaststroke, hitting the wall in 1:08.01.

In the 50-freestyle, senior Lucy Fulton (Wayne Pa./Radnor) finished in 26.50 to win the event, while Byrne became a two-time individual winner on the night with a victory in the 100-freestyle in 54.94. O'Sullivan went on to take an individual victory of her own in the 200-backstroke, taking that event in 2:19.42.

Next, in the 200-breaststroke, Campo won with a time of 2:29.31, while O'Sullivan became Scranton's second two-time winner on the night with a victory in the 100-butterfly in 1:04.56.

The final event of the night saw the Royals finish strong, as the Royals took the 200-freestyle relay in 1:44.93. On the team for the Royals was Fulton, Byrne, freshman Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and junior Elizabeth Howlin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West).

The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 26 at Susquehanna beginning at 1 p.m. More updates could be made to the Royals' schedule later this week. Stay tuned to athletics.scranton.edu for further information.
