WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J/Cranford) won three individual events and helped The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team take a 166-127 win over host Catholic on Saturday.
Scranton (now 2-0 on the year) started the afternoon on a high note, as the Royals' 200-medley relay squad bested the competition after hitting the wall in 1:51.77.
In individual action, Byrne was victorious in the 100-backstroke (59.92), 200-backstroke (2:12.24) and 200-IM (2:13.05), as she coasted in all three events to take victories.
Elsewhere, freshman Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) won the 100-breaststroke (1:08.72) and junior Marycate O'Sullivan (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) was victorious in the 200-butterfly (2:25.03). Sophomore Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) also picked up a win for the Royals in the 50-freestyle in 25.27.
In the 200-breaststroke, junior Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) was an easy winner in a time of 2:30.07, and in the final event for the swimmers, Scranton's 200-freestyle relay squad coasted to a victory in the event with a time of 1:40.78.
Finally, the Royals swept diving events on the afternoon, as freshman Jeanna Gailius (Milton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) won the one-meter (185.40) and three-meter (165.50) dives to finish off a banner day for the women's swimming & diving team.
The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team returns to action on Friday evening, as they head to King's for a dual meet. Things get underway at 6 p.m.
