Byrne Leads the Way, Again, as Women’s Swimming Rolls Past King’s

WILKES-BARRE - Junior Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) won two individual events to pace The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team to a 124-81 win over King's on Friday night.

In the win, Scranton (now 3-0 in dual meets for the season), began the night by capturing the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:53.77. Byrne led the way in the event swimming first, followed by freshman Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y/St. Anthony's), junior Audrey Campo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and senior Elizabeth Howlin (Smithtown, N.Y/Smithtown West).

On the evening, Byrne won the 200-IM (2:11.08) by over 11 seconds and the 200-backstroke (2:13.02) by over five seconds to be the only two-time winner on the evening for the Royals in the win.

Elsewhere, sophomore Amber Diehl (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) was victorious in the 50-freestyle in 26.08, while Campo won the 100-freestyle with a mark of 56.28. Pikulik also won an event on the evening, as she captured the 200-breaststroke in 2:39.03.

The evening ended for Scranton the way it started, as a relay team won an event, as this time the Royals captured the 400-freestyle relay in 3:48.56. Swimming on Scranton's "A" team in the event was Campo, Diehl, Howlin and junior Marycate O'Sullivan (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet).

The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, as they host Juniata and Goucher in their first home meet of the year inside the Byron Center. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
