Junior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) of The University of Scranton women's tennis team won a pair of matches on Friday as the Royals closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a victory over Lebanon Valley. For her performance, she has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
In Scranton's 8-1 win over the Flying Dutchmen on Friday, DeNunzio and junior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at no. 2 doubles as the Royals went on to sweep all three doubles matches.
In singles competition, DeNunzio won at the no. 1 flight over her opponent from Lebanon Valley, 6-2, 6-2, to help the Royals pull away with the non-conference victory and improve to 3-0 on the season.
After Friday's wins, DeNunzio finished the fall slate with a 4-1 record in singles play while going 2-1 in doubles action.
DeNunzio, who was a First Team All-Landmark Conference honoree in both singles and doubles last season, now has 24 singles victories for her career, tied for 25th best in Scranton history, while totaling 28 triumphs in doubles play, the 17th most in program history.
DeNunzio and the Royals will resume play with their annual spring break trip to Florida in mid-March.
