For the second time on the 2018-19 season, junior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) of The University of Scranton women's tennis team was named the Landmark Conference's Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 24.
DeNunzio, who previously earned the honor back on Oct. 15, 2018, led the Royals on Saturday in the team's spring opener vs. Messiah, an eventual 9-0 win for the Royals that improved their record to 4-0 on the season.
In the win, DeNunzio was victorious at the top spot of the lineup in both doubles and singles. In doubles action, her and junior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) posted an 8-1 win, while in singles, she went on to collect a straight set (6-1, 6-0) win to lead the Royals in eventual shutout victory at home.
For the year, DeNunzio is 5-1 overall in singles matches, while in doubles, she's a combined 3-1 overall, posting a 2-0 mark with Kelly on the year.
DeNunzio and the rest of The University of Scranton women's tennis team returns to action on Friday, March 8 when they open their slew of spring break matches in Florida. Then, the Royals will take on Rensselaer at a time to be announced.
