SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (2-1) won five of the six singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over the East Stroudsburg Warriors (0-3) on Saturday at Royal Courts in Scranton.
The Royals grabbed an early 2-1 lead after doubles play as the duo of senior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B.Reed Henderson)/sophomore Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles and junior Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep)/freshman Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area)registered an 8-0 win over the Warriors' Brianna Young/Ivanna Pittman in No. 3 doubles.
Senior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) had an early 3-0 lead at No. 1 singles and won by virtue of opponent retirement. In No. 2 singles action, junior Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) picked up a straight set (6-2, 6-2) victory over East Stroudsburg's Quinn McCluskey and Nowak captured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Aubrianna Stetina at No. 3 singles.
Junior Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win against Young at the No. 5 singles spot and sophomore Stephanie Hoffmann (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) rounded out the winners for the Royals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pittman in No. 6 singles.
Scranton returns to the court for a dual match at Messiah on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
