Women's Tennis Sweeps Messiah to Close Out Fall Season

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (3-1) closed out the fall season in style with a 9-0 win over the Messiah Falcons (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at Criste Courts in Grantham.

Senior Nastashia DeNunzio (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore)/junior Marissa Campo (Green Lane, Pa./Christopher Dock) registered an 8-2 win over Messiah's Rachel Marcroft/Kaylie Rider in No. 1 doubles. The duos of sophomore Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central)/senior Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) and juniors Kristen Denniston (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack)/Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) both recorded 8-0 victories for the Royals at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

DeNunzio got the best of Marcroft with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles action, while Campo swept Ryder 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazelton Area) recorded a 6-1, 6-0 win over the Falcons' Angela Tozzi in No. 3 singles and Kelly captured a 6-2, 6-2 win against Heather Schmidt at No. 4 singles.

At No. 5 singles, Junior Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) took home a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Messiah's Hannah Kapchinske and sophomore Stephanie Hoffmann (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) swept Caitlin Knapp 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles for the Royals.
