Women's Track & Field Wins Three Events as Royals Finish Third at DuCharme Invitational

Results

CARLISLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's track & field team won three events on Sunday at Dickinson College's DuCharme Invitational, finishing third out of eight teams in the meet.  The Royals totaled 26 top-10 finishes on the day, totaling 104 points and trailing just Dickinson (185) and Elizabethtown (169) in the overall competition. 

Freshman AnnMarie Onwuka (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy), junior Jasmin Russo (Hamden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy), junior Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) won an event apiece to lead Scranton on the day.

Onwuka won the 400 meter dash by running at time of 1:03.29, improving her personal record time by two seconds while posting the second-fastest time the event in the Landmark Conference this season. 

Russo won the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.41 seconds, moving up to fifth place in the Landmark Conference this winter.  She also ran anchored the Royals in the 4x200 meter relay as Scranton finished third in the race.

Banas won the high jump competition for the third time in four meets this season, clearing the bar at 1.60 meters.  She also went on to finish fifth in the 200 meter dash and was sixth in the long jump.

Junior Chrissy Noonan (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) brought home a runner-up finish in the 55 meter hurdles, clocking in just behind Russo at 9.60 seconds.  She also finished third in the 55 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 8.02 seconds.

Freshman Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) posted a pair of top-three results, finishing runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 4.70 meters, a new person record which is eighth-best in the Landmark Conference, while taking third in the high jump.  McGonigle went on to finish eighth in the 200 meter dash as well.

Freshman Lea Credido (Denville, N.J./Mountain Lakes) finished second in the 200 meter dash with a personal record time of 29.14 seconds and was fifth in the 55 meter dash. 

Sophomore Rachel Kerr (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Prep) claimed third in the 5,000 meter run, finishing the race in 10:59.37.

The Royals also received top-10 results from freshman Ariana Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) (5th, 400 meter dash), senior Alexa Cardella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (6th, 55 meter dash), sophomore Abigail Corrigan (Carbondale, Pa./Holy Cross) (7th, 3,000 meter run), freshman Alexis Mills (Dracut, Mass./Central Catholic) (8th, 400 meter dash), senior Alexa Cardella (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (9th, 200 meter dash), freshman Nikki George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) (9th, 800 meter run and 10th, 200 meter dash), junior Emily Burns (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) (9th, one mile run), freshman Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) (9th, 3,000 meter run), junior Julie Weismiller (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) (9th, long jump), freshman Katherine Fafian (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) (9th, shot put), and Lindsay Notarianni (10th, 3,000 meter run).

The Royals finished third in the 4x200 meter relay by posting a time of 1:56.22

Scranton returns to action next Saturday at the Marc Denault Invitational hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.  The meet will be the Royals' final competition before the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships.
