Women’s Track & Field Gears Up for Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships

The University of Scranton women's track & field team will head Towson, Maryland this weekend to the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Goucher.  The Royals, who finished seventh in their first outdoor conference championship meet last spring, have been picked sixth in this spring's pre-championship poll.         

Moravian was tabbed to repeat as the Landmark Conference champion, totaling 60 points and six first place votes while Elizabethtown was chosen second with 38 points and one first place vote in polling of the league's seven head coaches.

Scranton, which picked up 16 points in the pre-championships poll, is looking to continue to climb the conference standings in its second season under the leadership of head coach Ozzie Brown.

The Royals enter this weekend's meet with five competitors ranked in the top-five in the Landmark Conference in individual events.

Junior Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) is second in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters after winning the conference title and qualifying for the NCAA Championships last spring. Freshman Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) is tied for third in the same event with a season-best jump of 1.50 meters.

Junior Chrissy Noonan (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) clocked a 16.86 in the 100 meter hurdles earlier this spring to sit fourth in the conference while freshman Christina Piscitelli (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) is fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.59 meters.

Freshman Ally Maniscalco (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) has the conference's fifth best mark in the pole vault at 2.30 meters.

Scranton also features a pair of runners who rank sixth in their respective events entering this weekend's action.

Sophomore Rachel Kerr (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Prep), who was the runner-up in the 3000 meter run at the indoor championships, is currently sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:30.08. 

Junior Hannah Tracy (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) is sixth in the javelin with an outdoor season-best throw of 31.90 meters.

The Royals also feature a 4x100 relay team that ranks fifth in the conference as Noonan, Banas, freshman Lea Credido (Denville, N.J./Mountain Lakes), and junior Jasmin Russo (Hamden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) combined for a season-best mark of 53.38 seconds earlier this spring.
