The University of Scranton women's track & field team was picked to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field preseason poll that was released by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Royals earned 20 points in the poll after finishing fifth at last year's Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field championship meet.
Two-time defending champion Moravian received six first place votes and topped the poll with 60 points, while Elizabethtown was selected second with one first place vote and 45 points. Susquehanna was tabbed third in the poll with 34 points and Scranton came in fourth with the afore-mentioned 20 points.
The rest of the poll was comprised of Juniata (16 points), Catholic (15 points) and Goucher (6 points).
Head coach Ryan Pericozzi enters his first season at the helm of the Royals.
Scranton returns several student-athletes that recorded top-five finishes at the championship meet a year ago including a pair who earned silver medals.
Junior Rachel Kerr (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished second in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:31.02, while senior Jasmin Russo (Hamden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.74 seconds. Russo finished just ahead of classmate Chrissy Noonan (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) who took third with a time of 10.07 seconds.
Sophomore AnnMarie Onwuka (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) finished third in the 400 meter dash a year ago with a time of 1:02.76 and classmate Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) took fourth place in the high jump with a mark of 1.47m. Senior Hannah Tracy (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 10.33m.
The University of Scranton women's track and field team opens the 2019-20 season on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the River Hawks Opener that will be hosted by Susquehanna University.
