Volleyball Falls at No. 4 Johnson & Wales in Three Sets

PROVIDENCE R.I. – Johnson & Wales, currently ranked fourth in the nation, defeated The University of Scranton volleyball team in three sets on Friday evening to open the JWU Invitational.  The Wildcats, who have lost just three matches since the start of the 2016 season, are now 11-1 on the season.

Johnson & Wales opened the match with a 25-17 victory in the first set and took a 2-0 advantage with a 25-15 decision in game two.  The Royals (8-7) gave the hosts their tightest set of the evening in the third set, but the Wildcats prevailed, 25-20.

Freshman Eryn Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Westridge School for Girls) led the Royals (8-7) with eight kills on 14 attacks for a strong .429 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Kindler Norman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) dished out a team-leading 26 assists on the evening.

Senior Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) added six kills while fellow senior Catherine Manning (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) put down five kills to go along with a pair of blocks.

Senior Megan Monastra (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) picked up a team-best 12 digs for Scranton while sophomore Regina Schetroma (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) totaled nine digs.

Johnson & Wales hit .295 as a team in the victory versus a .114 showing by Scranton.  The Wildcats also held a 51-40 advantage in digs while totaling 46 kills to 31 for the Royals.

Scranton will close out the JWU Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches against teams that are receiving votes in the AVCA national top 25 poll.  The Royals are slated to take on Wesleyan at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. contest against Bowdoin.
