GLENSIDE, Pa. – The University of Scranton volleyball team split a pair of three-set matches on Friday night at the Knights Invitational hosted by Arcadia. The Royals fell to the host Knights in Friday's opener before rebounding to sweep Immaculata and level their record at 10-10 heading into Saturday's first two Landmark Conference matches.
Match 1 vs. Arcadia
In Scranton's opening match of the evening against host Arcadia (11-4), the Knights edged the Royals in a tight first set before pulling away with a back-to-back 25-16 wins in the next two sets to claim the victory.
Freshman Eryn Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Westridge School for Girls) had a pair of blocks and served up Scranton's only ace of the match.
The Royals were hindered by 27 attack errors against the hosts in the setback.
Match 2 vs. Immaculata
Scranton bounced back in a big way in Friday's nightcap, trouncing Immaculata (2-7) with set wins of 25-13, 25-8, and 25-11.
Boken posted a match-high 11 kills and added two more blocks while junior Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) added seven kills to power the Royals, who hit .338 in the match with 32 total kills to go along with 14 aces.
Sophomore Leigh Scarano (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) served up a match-best three aces for Scranton against the Mighty Macs, who -.031 in the loss.
Scranton opens Landmark Conference play on Saturday as its hosts a tri-match with Elizabethtown and Goucher. The Royals will take on Elizabethtown at 12 p.m. before closing out the day against Goucher at 5 p.m. in the John Long Center.
