Senior outside hitter Megan Monastra (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) of The University of Scranton volleyball team excelled all over the court last week to lead the Royals to victories in four of their five matches including a pair of sweeps to open Landmark Conference play.
For her performance, she has been honored as The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week, earning the award for the second time in her career.
Monastra totaled 37 kills, 42 digs and, five aces while logging a .270 hitting percentage as the Royals went 4-1 (2-0 Landmark) during the week.
She stepped up in a big way in Saturday's Landmark Conference tri-match, totaling 16 kills, five aces, and 20 digs while posting a .325 hitting percentage to lead Scranton to three-set wins over Elizabethtown and Goucher to open the conference slate.
Monastra began her week by matching a season-high with 16 kills in a four-set victory at Oneonta on Wednesday and added 11 digs and five kills in just four sets on Friday night as the Royals split a pair of matches at the Knights Invitational hosted by Arcadia.
In 20 matches this fall, Monastra has totaled 174 kills, averaging 2.60 kills per set, with a .161 hitting percentage while leading Scranton with 33 aces which is third-best in the Landmark Conference.
Defensively, she ranks second on the squad with 214 digs, an average of 3.19 digs per set, and has also totaled 14 blocks on the year.
Monastra and the Royals return to the court on Friday when they open the Rowan Quad against Eastern. First serve against the Eagles is set for 7 p.m. in Glassboro, N.J.
