Senior outside hitter Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) of The University of Scranton volleyball team put up outstanding numbers as the Royals faced some of their toughest competition of the season last week. As a result of her performance, she has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
This week's honor marks the sixth time in her career that Kirwan has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
In five matches, Kirwan totaled 87 kills and picked up 51 digs to go along with seven blocks and five service aces. She averaged 3.63 kills per set and logged a .176 hitting percentage as the Royals won a pair of matches while taking nationally-ranked Ithaca and Landmark Conference foe Susquehanna to five sets in a pair of narrow setbacks
Kirwan had double-figure kills in all five of Scranton's matches and is nine kills away from breaking the all-time Landmark Conference record for kills which was set by Susquehanna's Lindsey Jankiewicz from 2007-2010.
Highlighting Kirwan's week was a 23-kill effort against Stockton on Friday which followed a 20-kill, 12-dig effort in a victory at Stevens, which is receiving votes in the national top-25 poll. She also had 19 kills in Wednesday's five-set loss at Susquehanna on Wednesday and recorded a trio of double-doubles on the week.
For the season, Kirwan ranks second in the Landmark Conference with 362 kills and a 3.42 kills per set average. She has also contributed 255 digs, 34 aces, and 22 blocks.
Kirwan and the Royals host Moravian in on Wednesday evening in a Landmark Conference match starting at 7 p.m. in the John Long Center.
