Senior outside hitter Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) of The University of Scranton volleyball team had another outstanding week and broke a major conference record on Wednesday, leading the Royals three wins. As a result, she has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time in as many weeks.
This week's honor is also the seventh Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week award that Kirwan has earned in her decorated career at Scranton.
Kirwan totaled 44 kills on a .207 hitting percentage on the week to go along with 35 digs and four service aces.
In a three-set sweep over Landmark Conference foe Moravian on Wednesday night in the Long Center, Kirwan floored a match-high 11 kills in just two sets. Her ninth kill of the match, which came on the Royals' 23rd point of the third set, broke the all-time Landmark Conference record for kills which had stood since 2010.
Kirwan went on to post 11 kills and nine digs in a four-set victory over Gallaudet in the first match of Scranton's Senior Day tri-match on Friday night before racking up 22 kills and a season-best 19 digs in a five-set triumph over Lebanon Valley in the nightcap.
For the season, Kirwan has put down a Landmark Conference-leading 406 kills with a .175 attack percentage. She has also scooped up 290 digs to go along with 38 aces and 23 blocks.
Kirwan and the Royals (19-14, 3-1 Landmark) close the regular season on Saturday with a tri-match at Catholic, taking on No. 7 Juniata at 2:30 p.m. before meeting the host Cardinals at 5 p.m. Saturday's results will determine the seeding and matchups for the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs.
