The University of Scranton volleyball program was recognized for their work in the classroom on Monday, as the Royals earned both the 2018-19 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Team Academic Award and a spot on the Division III Academic Team Honor Roll.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Academic Team Honor Roll honor, meanwhile, honors schools that have a Top-25 GPA in their respective NCAA Division.
In all, 1,125 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-2019 season, a new record (175 of which were at the NCAA Division III level).
For Scranton, this marks the 11th time in program history that they have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award and the eighth straight season in which they have nabbed the honor, as well.
