This season, Scranton looks to replace a decorated departed senior class that led the Royals to 101 victories over the last four seasons, including a 35-5 ledger in the 2017 season, the best record in a season in program history.
Leading the returners for Scranton is senior Victoria Capogna (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. Anthony's), who as the team's lone senior returns to the Royals line-up in 2019 after sitting out the entire 2018 season with an injury. In 2017, Capogna was second on the team in total kills with 253, while leading the team in hitting percentage at .316.
Setting up the attack once again will be two-time All-Landmark Conference selection junior Kindler Norman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), who already ranks sixth in program history in career assists with 2,146. Norman and Capogna are two of the 11 returnees for Scranton, as the Royals program welcomes six into the fold for the 2019 campaign.
The 2019 season begins for Scranton on Friday, as the Royals host the annual Scranton Invitational inside the John Long Center. Scranton opens up play in the Invitational at 5 p.m. on Friday night, as they take on New Paltz, followed by a pair of matches against RIT (11 a.m.) and Coast Guard (5 p.m.) on Saturday.
Including the three home matches over the opening weekend of the season, Scranton will play inside the John Long Center nine times throughout the course of the year. In Landmark Conference action, Scranton will host both Catholic and Juniata on Oct. 5, and Susquehanna on Oct. 16.
The 2019 regular season will conclude on Nov. 2 with a pair of Landmark Conference matches at Goucher against the host Gophers and Elizabethtown.
