Capping off a banner freshman season for The University of Scranton volleyball team, outside hitter Carah Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was named to the 2019 All-Landmark Conference Second Team for her position on Tuesday afternoon.
On the year, Vitkus established herself as the best attacker on the Royals for the year by season's end, finishing with a team-high 318 kills (a three-kill per set average), which was the eighth-best mark in the Landmark Conference at season's end.
Overall, Vitkus went into double-digits in kills 17 times throughout the year, putting together her best performance vs. Hunter on Oct. 19, when she posted 22 kills. In the middle of the season, Vitkus also had 11 straight games in which she went into double-figures in the kills column, as well.
Elsewhere, she also posted 41 total blocks for the season (eight of which were solos) and had 110 digs. She also notched 12 service aces throughout the season, as well.
Vitkus led the Royals to 15 victories on the 2019 season, as Scranton once again qualified for the Landmark Conference Semifinals after going 3-3 in conference play. It marked the seventh straight season in which the Royals were in the Landmark Championship field.
