Men's and Women's Cross Country Set For Landmark Conference Championships

Two months of tempo runs, speed workouts, long runs and grueling races come to a crescendo on Saturday when The University of Scranton men's and women's cross country teams compete in the Landmark Conference championships in Huntingdon, Pa.

The championships will be held at Standing Stone Golf Club for the first time in the conference's 11-year existence. Hosted by Juniata College, the event will feature the men's 8,000-meter race at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6,000-meter race at 12 p.m. Live results will be available at

While Elizabethtown is the three-time defending champion on both the men's and women's side, Scranton will be looking to improve on its performances last season. The men finished third last season with five runners placing in the top 20. Just two of those performers return for this year's race, however, so the Royals will look for some new faces to perform well.

On the women's side, Scranton finished fifth last season, but has received a boost from a strong freshman class that includes Abigail Corrigan (Carbondale, Pa./Holy Cross), who has two first-place and two second-place finishes in five events this season. She has the fastest 6,000-meter time in the conference so far this season, running 21:54.9 at the Inter-Regional Border Battle on Oct. 14 at Rowan University.

Following the Landmark Conference championships, both teams will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa.
