DALLAS, Pa. – Sophomore Rachel Kerr (Archbald, Pa./Scranton Prep) and sophomore Abigail Guziewicz (Peckville, Pa./Holy Cross) both posted top-10 finishes to help The University of Scranton women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Cougar Classic at Misericordia University on Saturday morning.
The Royals finished the event with 44 points, well behind the host Cougars, who won with 20 points.
Kerr was Scranton's top runner for the third straight week, finishing sixth overall by completing the 6,000-meter course in 25:20.30, a career best for that distance. Guziewicz was three spots back in ninth with a time of 25:42.00.
Senior Emily Carr (Elmhurst, Pa./Scranton Prep) was the team's third runner across the line, finishing 13th in 26:30.40. Freshman Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) was right behind in 14th with a time of 26:35.50, and fellow freshman Amanda Maughan (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) rounded out the team's top five in 17th with a time of 26:57.30.
The women's cross country team will now have a week off to prepare for the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
